NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of Sunesis Pharmaceuticals (SNSS) spiked 31.74% to $2.20 in late morning trading Monday after the company said it would announce results from its late-stage trial of its acute myeloid leukemia treatment in early December.
Sunesis said it would announce the data from its Phase 3 VALOR trial of vosaroxin and cytarabine in patients with relapsed or refractory AML in a late-breaking oral presentation at the 56th American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting from December 6 to December 9 in San Francisco.
The company announced in early October that the experimental drug vosaroxin failed the primary endpoint in a late-stage study, as it did not prolong survival of elderly patients with advanced AML when compared to a placebo.
